The Hawaii Business Forum (HBF) Steering Committee is an ad hoc group of private and governmental organizations and individuals who voluntarily organize local participation in important global meetings that are held in Hawaii. Click on sponsors and steering committee to see a list of members.

Through the efforts of the HBF Steering Committee, hundreds of Hawaii business people were able to attend exclusive meetings and network with delegates and other attendees of the Pacific Basin Economic Council's annual meeting in 2000.

This year, the committee is expecting to give 1,000 Hawaii business people the unique opportunity to participate in another important global meeting - the Asian Development Bank's board of directors 34th annual meeting.

Exclusive HBF meetings, targeted for local business interest, and social events will be held on May 8. In addition, Hawaii business people can also attend almost all the ADB meetings and social functions, from May 7-11, 2001, at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Established in 1966 and headquartered in Manila, Philippines, ADB is a multilateral development finance institution owned by 59 member countries, mostly from Asia and the Pacific. Its principal goal is to reduce poverty. Related aims are to foster economic growth, support human development, improve the status of women and protect the environment. Its main tools are loans and technical assistance (TA), which it provides to governments for specific projects and programs. It also provides loans to and makes investments in private sector entities. In 2000, it loaned close to $6 billion and made TA grants totaling about $170 million.
